In the Dark Ages, people often dealt with terrible living conditions and a lack of education. These conditions happened for many years, and eventually this led to it becoming a hotbed for disease and illness. In the 1300's, the Black Plague struck Europe, wiping out a large swathe of the population. As a result of this, in the years after, as the country had more wealth to share, the arts increased and education expanded. This period would eventually become known as 'The Renaissance,' the rebirth.
