What is the epidermis?
This is the integumentary system’s primary role in keeping harmful pathogens out of the body.
What is protection?
This part of the hair, located beneath the skin’s surface, is responsible for hair growth.
What is the hair follicle?
This layer contains blood vessels, nerves, sweat glands, and hair follicles.
What is the Dermis?
The body cools itself when sweat evaporates from the skin through this process.
What is thermoregulation?
These glands secrete oil that helps keep skin and hair from drying out.
What are sebaceous glands?
This subcutaneous layer is made mostly of fat and helps insulate the body and absorb shock.
What is the hypodermis (subcutaneous layer)?
This function allows the skin to detect stimuli such as pressure, pain, and temperature.
What is sensory reception?
These glands have two different types which aids in secretion: Merocrine and Apocrine.
