What is an animal that eats only meat?

What is an animal that eats only plants?

What is carnivore (eats only meat)

What is a herbivore (eats only plants)

100
the process of transferring energy from one organism to another by eating and being eaten.
What is a food chain?
100

The basic unit that makes up ALL living things is called what?

What is a Cell?

100

Most plants make their own food through what process?

Photosynthesis.

Plants use Carbon Dioxide gas in the air and water in soil to make food in the form of sugar.

200

How can an animal be both a predator and a prey?

An animal can be a predator if it eats another animal. It can be a prey if it is eaten.

200

What is the first link in any food chain?

What is a producer?

200

What is a microorganism?

An organism that cannot be seen without the help of a microscope. Most are beneficial, some cause illness.

200

What is the primary source of energy in most ecosystems?

The sun

300
This is an animal that eats both meat and plants.
What is an omnivore
300
This is a system of overlapping food chains in which te flow of energy branches out in many directions.
What is food web?

What are bacteria? Are they good or bad?

bacteria are microorganisms found in all living organisms and everywhere on Earth.

Bacteria are both!

BAD- some bacteria cause illness and disease.

GOOD - beneficial to the survival of life. helps digest (swallow) food, make foods, and break down dead plants into nutrients.

Give me an example of a food chain using these words:

tree with acorns, fox, squirrel, sun

SUN ---> tree with acorns  ---> squirrel  ---> fox

400
This is what plants are called that can make their own food.
What is a producer
400
As resources in an environment change, what will happen to the other living things in that environment.
What is move or die out?
400

How are microorganisms helpful? Give examples.

They help make certain foods, break down materials into nutrients, and help in digestion.

Some examples include, yogurt, pickles,  yeast helping make bread, and fruit juice becoming vinegar.

400

where are microorganisms found?

EVERYWHERE ON EARTH

500

Plants make food through the process of what?

Photosynthesis.

Describe the difference between a food web and a food chain.
What is a food chain is only one example of how plants and animals are consumed. A food web shows many different ways that plants and animals consume and can be consumed.
500

What are plankton? Where do they live? How are they good?

Plankton are microorganism that live in water and form the beginning of the ocean food chain. Most do photosynthesis (make own food with suns energy) AND produce most of the Earth's oxygen!!

500

As you go up the food chain, is there more or less energy available?

Less energy is available to organisms at the top of the pyramid. This is why the population size of a predator is usually smaller than the population size of its prey.
