This plane cuts the body into left and right halves.
Sagittal
Going towards the back of the body.
Posterior
This membrane lines all body cavities that open to the outside of the body.
Mucous Membrane
This portion of the ventral cavity is located in the chest and contains the heart and lungs.
Thoracic Cavity
This organ system is responsible for producing and secreting hormones for body regulation.
Endocrine System
This plane cuts the body into superior and inferior halves.
Transverse Plane
Going towards the midline.
Medial
Lines ventral body cavities that are closed, as well as covering many organs
Serous Membrane
This portion of the ventral cavity contains the small and large intestine.
Abdominal Cavity
This organ system provides protection from the outside environment and contains the larges organ in your entire body.
The Integumentary System
This plane cuts the body into anterior and posterior halves.
Frontal/Coronal Plane
Going towards the direction where a limb attaches to the trunk.
Proximal
The membrane that covers the brain and spinal cord in the dorsal body cavity.
Meninges
This portion of the dorsal cavity includes the spinal chord.
Vertebral Cavity
This organ system provides both gas exchange and the transport of nutrients.
Cardiovascular System.
This variation of the sagittal plane cuts off the midline.
Parasagittal Plane
Going away from the external surface of the body.
Deep.
This type of serous membrane coats your internal organs.
Visceral Membrane
This muscle contracts while you inhale.
Diaphragm
