Placing you emotions of another event onto someone or something that is unrelated.

Are all coping skills negative or positive?
They can fall into both depending on what is. Drugs are a coping skill but not a sustainable one

They show us that something deeper is feeding into this feeling to help us understand the core of what is going on.

Compartmentalization is a defense mechanism in which people mentally separate conflicting thoughts, emotions, or experiences to avoid the discomfort of contradiction.
