Sea turtles hatch on sandy beaches and make a dangerous trip to the ocean. Many hatchlings do not survive because birds and crabs hunt them. Some baby turtles become confused by city lights and crawl away from the water. Conservation groups sometimes turn off nearby lights during hatching season. They also protect nests so more turtles can reach the sea safely.
