Why do we fast, what is the purpose/benefits?
We fast not only to be grateful for what we have, but to do a complete social, emotional, physical, and spiritual cleanse. Physically our body is ridding itself of toxins, boosting our immunity, and creating a healthy microbiome throughout our body. Fasting has been connected to treating cancer, and now it has been popular to do intermittent fasting for all the benefits previously mentioned. Spiritually, we are reconnecting with Allah and remembering our purpose on this Earth, and fasting not just based on what we eat, but from our full five senses: what we hear and what we see to connect with Allah on a profound level. Socially and emotionally, in relegating our intentions we get to realign with our purpose and reorient towards better influences and better things that nurture our souls and overall mental health.
