What is the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah?
This treaty, initially viewed as unfavorable by many companions, later proved to be a clear victory and led to widespread acceptance of Islam.
This Treaty of Hudaybiyyah was signed in 6 AH (628 CE) as a 10-year peace agreement between the Muslims and the Quraysh. Although it was meant to last a decade, it ended after about two years. The Quraysh’s allied tribe, Banū Bakr, attacked Khuza‘ah, who were allied with the Muslims, thus violating the treaty. Because of this breach, the Prophet ﷺ marched toward Makkah in 8 AH (630 CE), leading to its peaceful conquest. The short period of peace before the conquest allowed Islam to spread rapidly across Arabia.
