Before becoming known for his poetry and songs, Robert Burns worked primarily as a farmer and later as an excise officer.

Robert Burns was born into a farming family in 1759 in Alloway, Scotland. He spent much of his early life working on his father's farm, where he learned the skills of agriculture. This experience in farming earned him the nickname "The Ploughman Poet."
