George is sitting in his classroom. It is silent since all his classmates are still taking a test, but he is finished. He is bored and decides to get on his phone to watch a video. He doesn't have headphones so he plays the video out loud and laughs at it. People in the class are shooting him looks and frowning. Is what George is doing okay? Why or why not?
What George is doing is NOT okay. George can see everyone is still working on their tests and the class is very quiet so the students can focus. By playing the video out loud and making so much noise, he is distracting his classmates from taking the test. He should have done something quietly or waited patiently for everyone else to finish so he didn't disturb his peers.
Rosa and her parents are taking a walk through the park. Rosa's parents say that they should go out to dinner after their walk. Rosa sighs, appearing annoyed and says, "I guess we could do that but we do have a lot of leftovers at home that may go bad soon." What is Rosa really trying to say?

Maria just found out she got a poor grade on her test. She is very upset about the grade and during lunch is sitting all by herself, looking sad. Her friend, Kelly, sits next to her. Even though Kelly wants to tell Maria about her really good test grade, she instead asks Maria what's wrong. Is what Kelly did okay? Why or why not?
What Kelly did IS okay. Kelly noticed that Maria was upset and instead of sharing her own good news, which could have upset Maria more, she instead asked her friend what was wrong. It would have been inappropriate for Kelly to talk about her own grade because Maria is visibly upset and it is possible hearing her friend excited may have made her more sad.
Eric is working a part-time job as a cashier. He wants to take Monday off and talks to his boss about it. His boss sighs and says, "Well, we're going to be very busy on Monday and really need all the help we can get." What is Eric's boss really trying to say?

What Hayden did is NOT okay. Amir was in the middle of talking and telling a story and Hayden interrupted him. This was rude to Amir as he did not let Amir finish his story. Hayden could have let Amir tell his story and then when he was done, talk about his trip, but interrupting was rude and upsetting to Amir.
Jordan's teacher has given her a homework assignment to work on at home. At first, she was worried it would be a lot of work and difficult. However, upon looking at it she smiles and tells her parents, "This homework assignment will be a breeze." What did Jordan mean by this?

What Delilah did is NOT okay. Delilah is allowed to be upset and even angry, but she should not have gone as far as to call her sister names and be rude towards her all day over what pet they are getting.
Cairo is studying for her science exam. She has been studying for a long time and is tired, but she doesn't feel ready for her exam yet. Her mother notices she seems tired and gives her a pat on the back. She tells her, "Hang in there!" What did Cairo's mother mean by this?
She meant that Cairo should not give up and should keep up the hard work. She was encouraging Cairo to keep working hard.
