In the break room in their clinic, a BCBA made a casual comment, more of a joke really, which Sally (an RBT) felt a little uneasy about. The BCBA said "I don't care what the teacher thinks! My job is to get the kid to behave, and if it disrupts her class a little bit, that's her problem. We have enough problems as it is!" What, if anything, is wrong about this statement?
Any ethical Concerns

The joke made by the BCBA was unprofessional, as it serves to undermine the views and concerns of a legitimate stakeholder in the behavior change plan the BCBA is implementing. A BCBA has a responsibility to all parties, and while the client comes first, we should not treat other stakeholders with disdain.

An RBT working with a client is asked by the parent to perform a functional analysis that the BCBA on the case had planned to do, but, due to an unexpected emergency, has to delay by a week.

The RBT is in school working toward their BCBA certification and parents want to continue the FA The caregiver has taken some time to look up and research functional analysis procedures on the internet in order to provide support.

Any ethical concerns

The RBT must contact their supervisor to notify the family of the concern. An RBT must be supervised by a BCBA when conducting a functional analysis, and only BCBAs or BCBA-Ds are competent to design an FA. The BCBA should then follow-up with the family about this concern.

Jameela previously studied as a speech-language pathologist (SLP) before beginning her role as an RBT at a behavior analysis clinic. Her job duties do not include speech-language pathology in the description, but, what could it hurt to use her knowledge of human language to help teach her client new skills? In her lesson plans, she frequently draws from her background as an SLP.

Any ethical Concerns?

Jameela is supposed to be providing behavior analytic services as a RBT, not an SLP. As such, her work should be based off the science of behavior analysis more or less alone, and it is misrepresentative of her to use speech-language pathology when she is purporting to provide behavior analysis services to her clients.

Zach recieves a gift from his client- a paper card with macaroni noodes on it. Zach declines the gift politely as RBT's cannot accept gifts from clients.

What ethical considerations are there here?

The gift has no "street value" and it might disrupt the rapport with the client or parents if not accepted.
