What are internships?

An internship is a short-term work experience offered by companies and other organizations for people—usually students, but not always—to get some entry-level exposure to a particular industry or field. It is as much of a learning experience as it is work. Ideally, interns spend their time working on relevant projects, learning about the field, making industry connections, and developing both hard and soft skills. Internships sometimes even lead to full-time job offers.

If one student has high grades but low test scores and another has low grades but high test cores, the first student is far more likely to get accepted into a better college. Colleges prefer the “bad test-taker” to students who don’t apply themselves

What are some differences between Community College and a University

-degrees at a community college only take two years to complete, while degrees at a four year university take four years to complete

-Universities are much larger than community colleges

-community college education is deemed to be more affordable

How much does it cost you to go to HOSTOS?

You do not pay for two years of classes towards Community Health, Registered Nurse, Non-Profit Business Management, and Education. 

However, if you go to HOSTOS otherwise, it's $210 per-credit.

Name differences between Public vs Private college

-cost of attendance is usually much higher for private 

-Public colleges typically have a larger student body and therefore offer more degree programs 

-Public colleges and universities are typically larger in size and have larger class sizes the majority of Division I athletic teams are based at public colleges

What are some differences between the SAT and ACT 

-the SAT has a reading test that takes 65 minutes, a 35-minute writing and language test and an 80-minute math section. 

-The ACT is comprised of a 35-minute reading test, 45-minute English test, 60-minute math section and 35-minute science test


The SAT allows more time per question for every section of the test, whereas the ACT requires you to move faster through the questions. Additionally, the ACT has more questions than the SAT, but the SAT questions often require more lengthy reading and problem solving (so they take a little longer to complete).

Semester vs Quarter system

-A semester system generally consists of two 16-week terms: one in the fall (followed by a winter break) and one in the spring (followed by a summer break). The average full-time student takes 4-5 courses per term 

-A quarter system consists of 4, 10-week sessions.

Do you have to pay back Scholarships or Grants? 

No. 

Scholarships are awarded and usually have some sort of stipulation, you must earn at least a 3.0 GPA or higher to remain earning the money. 

Grants come from the Government and you do not need to pay them back unless you drop out.

What colleges participated in the FIRST football college game? Bonus points for what year.

The first football game, between two different colleges, happened in November of 1869. It was Princeton vs. Rutgers. (Rutgers won, 6-4).
