What are the 5 steps to follow when you feel angry?

  1. Take a deep breath.

  2. Sit down.

  3. Say: أَعُوذُ بِاللّٰهِ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيم (I seek refuge in Allah from Shayṭān, the accursed.)

  4. Take 1 minute of silence, no speaking, no actions. Think carefully.

  5. During this minute:

  • Name your feeling in your head: “I feel _____  because _____.”

  • Decide your response: “I will express my feelings calmly and respectfully.”

  • Think of the best words to use. Take responsibility for how you feel; don’t blame others for how you feel.
