What Month is Black History Month and why?

February ~Woodson chose February as the month to honor black history because Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass were born in February. Woodson's initial concept in 1926 was for "Negro History Week" to be held near the birthday of Abraham Lincoln on February 12 and of Frederick Douglass on February 14. Black communities had celebrated those dates together since the late 19th century.
