When his dad dies, a boy must care for his kin. They are poor and live high on a hill, but they still have peace and joy. One day, he goes to a town to sell wood for pay. On the way back, dark comes, so he must stay the night with an old man. The man tells him of foul fiends who hunt and feed on flesh in the dark woods.
At day break, the boy goes home. There, he finds his kin all cut down. Just one is left: his sis. But she has been made one of the foul fiends.
Mad with grief and hate, the boy swears to make those fiends pay. He will stay by his sis and keep her safe. With the aid of a band who hunt the fiends, he will do all he can to kill the dark fiends and save what good is left in his dear sis.
