Kingdom: Monera
Kingdom: Protist
Kingdom: Fungi
Miscellaneous
General: 5 Kingdoms
100

Organisms in the Monera Kingdom reproduce in this way.

Asexually

100

What are the names of the 2 groups of protists in this kingdom?

Algae (Autotrophic proctists) and Protozoans (Heterotrophic Protoctists)

100

Fungi reproduce in this way.

Asexually.

100

This Kingdom is where the First Living Things on Earth are. (Bacterias and Cyanobacterias)

Moneran Kingdom

100

Plants are ______-celled ____-karyotic organisms.

Eukaryotic Multicellular Organisms

200

The Moneran Kingdom consists entirely of Bacteria. Bacteria are ______-celled ____-karyotic organisms.

Single-celled (unicellular) prokaryotic organisms.

200

Name the three classification groups of Algae.

Red, Brown, and Green

200

Are Fungi Unicellular or Multicellular? Autotrophic or Heterotrophic?

Both Unicellular and Multicellular. Heterotrophic.
200

In Mushrooms, what is the name of the mass of Hyphae buried underneath the Soil? (Hint: Minecraft)

Mycelium

200

Do Animals in the Animal Kingdom Produce Sexually or Asexually?

Sexually

300

The Genetic Material and DNA in Monerans are located where?

Dispersed in the cytoplasm, protected by a cell wall around the cell membrane.
300

What types of environments do Algae usually live in?

Aquatic Environments, Freshwater and Seawater

Moist Soil Habitats

300

Name the three types of fungi studied

Yeast, Mould and Mushrooms.

300

Penicillin was a life-changing discovery if accidental by Alexander Fleming. What Kingdom does Penicillin belong to?

The Fungi Kingdom

300

Which Kingdom is where organisms are placed that don't fit in any other Kingdom?

The Protist Kingdom

400

Are Bacteria Autotrophic or Heterotrophic?

Autotrophic (Cyanobacteria) and Heterotrophic (Symbiotic, Parasitic, and Saprotrophic)

400

Explain 2 reasons why Protists are Important in our Lives.

They act as a Food Source for other Animals

They oxygenate/ produce a majority of our world's oxygen (70%!)

The Food Industry- Seaweed, Food Colouring, Thickener, Culture Dish Preparation, Gelatin, some Cheeses

Harmful Algae- Can produce harmful toxins, or cover the Ocean Surface, preventing other helpful producers from being able to photosynthesize

400

Fungi prefer these types of environments.

Soil

Dark, Damp Places

Organic Matter they feed on

400

What is the difference between Symbiotic and Parasitic?

Symbiotes work together with their hosts to mutually benefit each other. (Ants and Aphids, Alligators and Birds)

Parasites are only harmful to their hosts. They drain resources and nutrients until the host dies.

400

List some differences between organisms in the Plant Kingdom vs the Animal Kingdom.

Plants do not move location, but can move in place.

Animals have sensory organs and move around.

Plants are autotrophs using photosynthesis, while Animals are heterotrophs and eat/consume.

500

Explain 2 out of the 4 Important Roles Bacteria take in our lives. (Beneficial or Harmful OK)

In Ecosystems- Producers of oxygen

Decomposers- break down dead matter

In Food Production- Dairy Products and other foods

In Pharmaceuticals and Medicine- Antibiotics and Vaccines

Harmful Bacteria make you sick, with some diseases possibly being deadly

500

What are the names of the 4 Classifications of Protozoans? How do each of them move?

Flagellates move by Flagellum, which function as a tail

Ciliates have Cilia, little hairs on the sides that move rapidly

Rhizopods use Pseudopods, morphing their body to make feet

Sporozoans are Immobile. Parasitic and transferred in other methods (Mosquitoes)

500

Explain 2 of the 4 reasons Fungi are important in our lives.

In ecosystems- Decomposers

In Food Production- Edible Mushrooms, Yeast for Bread, Fermentation for Wine and Beer

In medicine (antibiotics)- Eukaryotic like humans and can produce antibodies

Harmful Fungi- Parasitic Fungi like Athlete's Foot, Thrush, and Ringworm.

Some are toxic if ingested, and can even cause death.

500

Critical Thinking: Why is it important to have Decomposers from the Fungus and Moneran Kingdom? No Point Deduction for Being Incorrect.

Decomposers break down matter and mass so that eventually it returns to the cycle of the Earth. Without Decomposers, fallen trees would stay fallen forever. New plants would never grow, as there would be no forest ground. Crops would be harder to grow without fertilizers.

500

Are viruses living organisms? Explain why.

Viruses are non-cellular, as they do not have the cell structure of living things. They contain genetic material, but have no cytoplasm or organelles.

They do not perform the three vital functions; they can only reproduce by parasitizing another cell.
