A whole is something that can be divided in Equal Parts
What is a Set?
A Set is a group of objects with something in common
What is a Fraction in a Number Line?
A Fraction in a Number Line is an Equal Part of the Number Line.
What is an Equivalent Fraction?
An Equivalent Fraction is a Different Fraction with the same value as the original one.
When do you use the Cross Multiplication Strategy?
We use Cross Multiplication when we Add or Subtract Fractions with Unlike Denominators
If I divide my Whole into seven Equal Parts, how do I name each part?
When I divide my Whole into seven Equal Parts, I call each part one seventh
I can also call it one over seven or one out of seven

Are all the parts of a Set Equal?
They could be equal but they could also be different
Example:
Set = 2 boys and 3 girls
Set = 4 girls Set = 4 boys
What do you measure in a Number Line?
Do you measure the lines or, the equal parts on the line
On a Number line we measure the Equal Parts on the line. In other words, we measure how many spaces are in the line
How do you find an Equivalent Fraction?
You can find an Equivalent Fraction by multiplying the Denominator and the Numerator by the same number
In a Cross Multiplication Strategy, what do you do first
First, you multiply the denominators to find a common denominator
If I have a cake divided into ten Equal Parts and I eat seven parts. What would be the Denominator and what would be the Numerator?
Since I divided my Whole into ten Equal Parts, the Denominator would be ten.
Since I ate only seven parts, the Numerator would be seven. The Fraction would be
7/10
In a Set of Plants, there are 4 roses and 5 trees. What would be the Fraction of a Set of Plants that represents the roses?
In the Set of Plants, the roses and the trees are Parts of the Set. So if I name just the roses, I will be naming just Part of the Set.
Since the roses are only 4 out of the 9 plants, then the Fraction of the Set of Plants that are roses is 4/9
If I find on a Number Line 3/8, in how many equal parts is my Number Line divided in?
In a Number Line the Denominator tells you the number of Equal Parts into which the Number Line is divided.
So the number 8 tells me that the Number line is divided into 8 Equal Parts

The Equivalent Fraction of 2/5 could be:
4/10 6/15 8/20 10/25
Solve the following problem:
1/3 + 3/5 = ?
In a Cross Multiplication this is the solution:
First, 3 x 5 = 15 (Denominator)
Next, you do the cross multiplication: 1x5=5 and 3x3=9 (Numerators to add)
Solution: 1/3 = 3/5 = 14/15
If I have 7/8 of a Hershey's chocolate bar. What number represents the Whole and what number represents the Fraction of a Whole?
Since the Denominator is 8, I know that my Whole is divided into 8 Equal Parts. So the number 8 represents the Whole
Since the 7 is the Numerator, I know that the Part of the Whole is number 7
If we have a Set of Animals with 4 lions, 3 tigers and 2 elephants, name the Fraction of a Set that represents each kind of animals
The Set has 9 animals in total.
Just 4 are lions, so the Fraction of lions is 4/9
Just 3 are tigers, so the Fraction of tigers is 3/9
Just 2 are elephants, so the Fraction of elephants is 2/9
In a Fraction on a Number Line of 2/5. What represents the Numerator 2?
The 2 is the Numerator and it represents how many equal parts I am measuring on the Number Line
What will be an Equivalent Fraction of 3/4 if the denominator is 20
3/4 = /20
The Equivalent Fraction of 3/4 with a denominator of 20 is:
3/4 = 15/20

Using cross multiplication:

The window of my house is divided into 9 squares. My cousin broke 4 squares. What represents the Whole and what represents the Fraction of a Whole?
My window is the Whole represented by 9 squares.
The 4 squares of my Whole window that my cousin broke represents the Fraction of a Whole
9=Whole 4/9=Fraction of a Whole
If I have a Set of 12 Shapes of triangles and circles, and I know that the Fraction of triangles is 4/12. What would it be the Fraction of circles?
I know that the Set of Shapes has 12 parts
I also know that a Part of the Set are triangles, I can say that the Fraction of triangles is 4/12
The Fraction of circles should be 8/12 because the Set has 12 parts in total
Draw a Number Line and label it 0 to 1
Divide the Number Line into six equal parts
Find the fraction and Label 4/6
How many equal parts did you count in the fraction 4/6
The answer is 4 equal parts or spaces
Solve this problem using Equivalent Fraction Strategy:
1/3 + 2/6 = ?
Using Equivalent Fraction Strategy you need to change the 3 into 6 by multiplying the 3x2=6
Next, you need to multiply the 1x2 =2
Finally, you can add 2/6 + 2/6 = 4/6
Bob took home five-sixths of a birthday cake. Lucy took four-fifths of another cake. What is the difference between the two cakes?
