Use a separate cutting board/food surface for raw meat, chicken, seafood and eggs to prevent cross contamination. Rinse fruits and vegetables. Change clothes/wash hands when switching between raw foods and other foods/food surfaces.

 What is rabies, how does one get it, and can it be prevented? 

People and animals can only get rabies if they are bitten or scratched by an animal with rabies. Rabies can be prevented. Racoons, bats, foxes, skunks, ground hogs, cats & dogs (stray/unvaccinated), etc.  If bitten or scratched, or suspected bite/scratch, you should wash bite wounds and scratches thoroughly and seek medical attention immediately. The best way to prevent rabies is to make sure your pets are vaccinated against rabies and that you stay away from strays
