Stock V Custom

2 Types of windows in the industry, Stock and Custom, Stock is pre-made in 2-4 inch increments, Too big or too small for your opening, Contractor must gut the window down to the studs, remove the buck frame…These are messy, time consuming, requires maintenance…

WE USE A CUSTOM WINDOW, Measured to the nearest 1/4 of an inch, No mess, no maintenance…We make the window fit the home, as opposed to making the home fit the window.

Sound good?

Speak to Relative

“Look, I totally understand you want advice from your (whoever they want advice from).I would never tell you not to get advice from them.

What’s actually really funny is I take those kinds of calls all the time. Since I’m in the remodeling industry, all of my friends and family think I’m some sort of expert on everything, when I really only specialize in Windows.

Imagine if my mom called and said, 'Hey, I have a guy here who just quoted our kitchen renovation at $32,000. Do you think that’s a good price?' My immediate reaction would be, 'Whoa, hold up... that’s a lot of money, Mom. I don’t think you should do it.'

That's because I only heard the dollar amount and have no idea what's included. It could be a great deal with marble countertops and all new appliances, but without knowing the details, I can't give sound advice.

The same goes for you, even if your (whoever they want advice from) said to do the project, he would still be giving you BAD advice since he/she has no idea who we are, what we do, our product, or installation.

In reality, the most informed person in this situation is you since you now know more about windows than 99% of the population.”

What is... Brown spotting around nails in roof decking.

Condensation from nails in the roof decking, cold outside and warm inside the attic caused by the lack of attic insulation allowing heat to permeate into the attic.

As the decking continues to decay it loses integrity and is a structural risk to the entire roof and can lead to having to reroof

Look, I've been doing this job for a while, and I've realized that some purchases are fun and others aren't as exciting. For example, when you went to buy a new TV, that was a fun experience. You walked into a place like Best Buy, surrounded by TVs, and you could have probably spent all day there! Windows aren’t TV’s, they are more of a need than a want.

Because of this, no one is ever going to wake up and say, YES! NAME is here to give me a free estimate on my windows!

As un-exciting as it is to get a free estimate, it’s even less exciting to spend thousands of dollars on your windows.

No one will ever wake up and say “Today’s the day I invest in windows!" It just doesn’t happen.

What happens is that eventually, you'll be sitting at this table with either myself or someone like me, representing a company you can trust and offering a product that you like. You'll realize, “This isn't something fun, but it's something I've been putting off for years and it needs to get done” and you'll decide to go ahead with it."

Window drawing

You’ve got a buck frame around that window, that’s that wooden frame that we were talking about.

Earlier what we were talking about was that if we had to replace those, they’re about $300-500 a piece. (write $400 off to side) These are just normal sized windows. Not the end of the world if it happens a couple times. If that happens throughout the entire house, that would certainly add up and be noticeable. We know that that problem exists because we have that damage is those corners. And that’s indicative of that water damage. That frame separation we were seeing- tells us that we are not managing the water and its affecting the wall cavity.

So the concern is, how far has that water damage gone beyond that?!

Just so you guys know what happens inside your wall…..

Above your window, you have what’s called a HEADER. That header what it does is support the weight of the wall and the roof over the top of the window so that its not crushing that window.

On either side, you’ve got JACK STUDS. And what they do is they carry the weight of the header down to the floor so that its supported and not affecting the window itself.

Underneath the window, you’ve got a sill plate. It supports the weight of the window.

Then you have cripple studs that support the weight of the SILL PLATE. Inside that, in-between, we’ve got INSULATION. And then we have ELECTRICAL.

None of that is ever meant to be wet.

As these problems get worse…and these issues (point to frame separation in corners) start to affect these things (point to wall below).

Lets say the sill plate is rotted out and it starts to effect this cripple stud….I can’t just replace that cripple stud. We end up having to take this entire thing apart (circle the entire area of wall cavity below window) Now, we’ve got FRAMING, We’ve got DRYWALL, We have ELECTRICAL, we’ve got INSULATION, We have PAINT….we have multiple different contractors we’d have to bring in in order to solve that particular problem.

That’s not $400 anymore. Once we’re here, we’re looking closer to $2,000 (write $2,000 below the $400)

Worst case scenario guys… that wood here? That’s a food source, we add water to that, all it takes is one spore, and you’ll start to get things growing in there. Now if you need remediation? You can add on another thousand bucks (write $1000 below the $2000).

That right there would be a massive bummer if that happened one time.

If that happened 5 times, that starts to become unmanageable for some people.

I’m not saying you have this, but you’re headed in that direction. You have all the warning signs of eventually having this if you don’t solve this problem quickly.

And I’m not guessing on this. We do see this all the time (show stock photos)

Attic Drawing

Explain what you are drawing; include both floors and soffit, fascia, gutters, downspouts, and A-frame of roof.

Ideally, what temperature do you like to set your home thermostat to?  Write number on bottom floor.

You mentioned your upper floor was getting a lot hotter than the lower floor, especially during the summer.

You mentioned you were feeling the upstairs be AT LEAST ten degrees hotter. Write that number on top floor.

So, a lot of people think that’s from just heat rising, which it does.  But we are only talking about 8-10 feet between your floors. Scientifically speaking, we should only see a difference of about a degree or two.

The problem that we run into, especially out here in Colorado, is that we get over 300 days of sunshine.  UV Rays and that sun just beat down on your roof, and your roofing system is absorbing over 90% of  those UV rays right into your attic space. Draw sun and arrow going into the roof.  Write ‘UV Rays’ and ‘90%’.

In Colorado we are constantly seeing temperatures of 125-150 degrees, especially in the summer. Write 120-150º in attic.

You currently have a small amount of blown in insulation .

You are a little bit low, so a lot of people think, “I’m just going to add more insulation to keep the heat out of my living space.” Well the problem is you can add insulation all the way up to your roofline POINT but blown in insulation is only effective up to 105 degrees.  Write 105º with arrow and circle.

So that’s why you are experiencing hotter temperatures on your upper floor, the heat is permeating through the ceiling.

So, what we do to fix that is we attach our exclusive product called ENERGY SPHERE.

It’s a thermal reflective barrier attached right into your A-Frame.

What Energy Sphere uses is two coatings of silver, which is the most reflective metal on Earth, apart from gold, and it is perforated for breathability.  Between the two layers of silver is six inches of compressed commercial-grade insulation.

Power is the ONLY residential remodeler that is putting commercial-grade insulation in residential homes.  This is the same technology that they put in skyscrapers, and also NASA uses this in their astronaut suits.

Because you’ll have this in your attic space, what it will do is reflect 97% of those UV Rays right off of your roofing system.

Draw arrow with ‘97%’ reflecting off roof, and cross out 90% arrow.

Now even on the hottest days, this technology will keep your attic within five degrees of the outside temperature

Now your attic insulation can actually do its job.  On that note, you are a little low, so we will add in JOHNS MANVILLE  blown in insulation to boost your R-value and get you up to code. This will keep your heat inside your home in the winter, and reflect it away in the summer.

It will save you on your HVAC / heating systems and keep your family more comfortable inside the home.

Not only that, but outside we were talking about the rot you have on your fascia board, so this will also protect your trim and gutters.

And, It will also prevent you from getting further ice damming.  So what happens, is when you’re improperly insulated in your attic, you are paying to heat up your attic space and it will then heat up your roof.

So when we get snow storms, it speeds up the melting process.  In fact, after a big snow storm, you can look at your neighbors’ houses and be able to tell who has poor insulation by which roofs have snow melting the fastest.

The problem is, when snow melts unevenly, it refreezes right here in what’s called the COLD POCKET.

This is your warm wall Point and beyond that is where that snow will refreeze.

That’s where ice and moisture gets behind your fascia board and pushes your gutters off of the fascia board like we spoke about outside.

That’s your water management system, and it’s failing to do its job.  Because now that moisture is dripping directly down to your foundation.

It’s starting to rot out your soffit and fascia.

AND it’s getting underneath your shingles on your roof because shingles are only designed for water to flow one direction.

But that refrozen water is getting back up underneath those shingles, which will rot out the decking and will make it’s way into the attic causing leaking and some kind of mold or fungal growth
