Miyamoto Musashi (1584-1645) is credited to being one of the greatest Samurai to ever exist. He was credited to being a legendary master swordsman. He fought many one-on-one duels to the death. What was his record?

He even one a fight with a bokken (over-seized wooden sword) against Sasaki Kojiro who used a real sword. Musashi used the bokken as a psychological tactic.
Musashi also founded the Niten Ichi-ryū (Two Heavens as One) technique which was where the samurai wields both a long katana and a shorter wakizashi sword.

Samurai Lord Justo Takayama Ukon was famous for being the first samurai to do what?
To convert to Christianity instead of Shinto or Buddhism. He was nicknamed the "Christian Samurai" and was beatified (became a saint) by the catholic church in 2017.
Christianity was brought to Japan (Kyushu region) in 1549 by the missionary Frances Xavier. Due to the nations dislike of anything non-Japanese, Japanese Christians kept their faith secret since the 1650's as persecution kept increasing. In 1614 the Tokugawa Shogunate permanently outlawed Christianity until 1873 when the ban was lifted.
During Justo's time, the bans gave him an ultimatum, lose everything you built or lose your faith. He kept the faith and lost all of his wealth and land. Afterwards Justo went on to continue building orphanages, churches and even helped build 2 castles. He was also a master tea maker. He was exiled from Japan in 1614 to the philippines and died in 1615.
