God creates the world and we also meet our ancestors, Abraham and Sarah, Isaac and Rebecca, Jacob, Rachel, and Leah. It ends when we move down to Egypt and the story of Joseph.

Moses says farewell by giving five speeches, and recapping the Israelites' journey. Since he cannot enter the land of Israel, he dies on the mountain.
What is Deuteronomy (Devarim)?
This man loves Hannah and tells her not to worry because he will be as good a husband to her as ten children would be!
Who is Elkanah?
This is the last three words of the prayer we say over the study of Torah (in Hebrew)

This is the name of Samuel's boss when he is a child. He is the priest at Shiloh.
Who is Eli?
Roll call! How many Israelites do we have that can fight in the army? Not only do we count the people, we also continue our journey through the wilderness, complaining and making mistakes along the way.
What is Numbers (Bamidbar)?
This is the priest who yells at Hannah because he thinks she is drunk.
Who is Eli?
This is an important value ("kavod" in Hebrew), and is why I should listen quietly when my friends are sharing.

This is the Hebrew word for praying like Hannah did, with a full heart.
What is Kavvana?
This is the name of the very important king that Samuel will anoint/choose.
Who is King David?
After being freed from Egypt, the Israelites receive laws about how to behave with holiness. What should our temple services look like? How can we be a "kingdom of priests and a holy nation?"
What is Leviticus (Vayikra)?
This is the name of the place where both Elkana and Hannah go to pray, and where Eli works. It's where the altar of God was.
What is Shiloh?
This is why I should not have side-conversations during class.

Hannah vows to make Samuel this, promising that no razor will cut his hair and he will not drink any grape juice or wine.
