What is the difference between a DNR and Advance Directive?

An advanced directive is a patient’s wishes and a DNR/DNAR is a provider’s order. We only honor DNR/DNAR if they are readily accessible if the patient has an event in clinic (i.e., patient has a physical copy with them). We cannot delay care to find the order.

Do we accept verbal or telephone orders from the provider?

We only accept verbal orders in the case of an emergency or if the provider is away from the clinic with no access to a computer. If these are the case, they must be noted in patient's record. Order must be entered within 24 hrs
