When a staff members suspects an abduction they will notify ECC. What will ECC then do?
Broadcast, Physical description of the patient.
Physical description of the abductor (if known).
Direction of travel and other information.
What is a Code 44?
A sudden illness or injury to staff members or visitors.
Patients can not be a Code 44
What does RACE stand for?
Rescue, Alarm, Contain, and Evacuate
What is a Code Blue?
Cardio-Pulmonary alerts and stroke events.
A person’s breathing and/or pulse is absent or when deterioration in vital signs and/or life threatening cardiac rhythm changes requiring Advanced Cardiac Life Support.
Do not release information about the bomb threat to the public. Who is responsible for doing that?
The Office of Communications Marketing & Media department will release authorized statements to journalists and the public in consultation with state/local officials with jurisdiction.
When confirmation of an abduction has been made, Emergency Communications will do what next?
Notify law enforcement and make administrative notifications defined by checklists to include both Security Administration and Risk Management.
Activate MIR-3 alerts to all registered persons.
Activate designated door controls to minimize egress from campus facilities.
Conduct overhead announcements for all areas advising of the abduction, abductor’s description, and juvenile description with a request that potential witnesses immediately notify the ECC at -69111.
What is an AED?
Automated External Defibrillator.
What does PASS stand for?
Point, Aim, Squeeze, and Sweep
What information will ECC give out over the radio
Building, Floor, and Room Location
A suspicious package may look like what?
No return address, the return address is different from the location where mailed (post marked), or mailed from an unusual or unknown location.
Incorrect spelling, address is poorly typed; address has an incorrect title or uses only your title and no name.
Restrictive markings such as “Confidential” or “Personal”.
Excessive postage. An unusual odor. Oily stains on the package, or protruding wires, string, or tin foil.
Unusual size, shape, weight, or balance of weight in the package.
The envelope or package is rigid or the contents are lopsided or uneven excessive string or tape to secure the package.
Who will the parents of the child receive information from concerning the abduction.

Reynolds Tower (G. floor) (Spine)
Hanes Building (E.Level) Janeway Tower (7th floor )
Cancer Center (5th floor)
4th floor Ardmore Tower West (Inside Cath Lab)
Sticht Center (Grnd.floor)
When arriving on scene, what should you report to ECC?
If fire or smoke is visible.
Who is responsible for cleaning the equipment after the Code Blue.
Medical Staff or Code Team is responsible for cleaning and restocking the defibrillator before transferring it to Security personnel for return to the ECC.
If a suspicious package is found, what should you do?
Leave the package in place.
Remove people from the immediate location and prohibit access to the area.
Evacuate the adjacent areas immediately.
Use fire evacuation routes (horizontal if possible) – refer to FDS Section V-8,Evacuation.
Open doors and windows in the immediate area and leave open until Emergency Operations Center tells you to close them.
Consult with the police department in regard to package removal.
The room where the child was becomes what?
A Crime Scene. Officer will be posted at the door and document all parties entering and actions while in the room. Try to minimize entry for only critical actions needed.
Who can offer medical assistance?
Only Code 44 members?
* Medical Staff may perform or give aide (IF) they assume medical control. If they do, they must go to the ED with the patient and Code 44 member.
When on scene and the device or source of activation is located, what additional actions need to take place?
Be mindful of potential badge access affected by alarm. (Doors Unsecured), Give ECC exact location, know evacuation routes and coordinate evacuation if needed. Attempt to suppress fire if possible.
Where are the Zoll Defibrillators Located?
ECC, Cancer Center 5th floor, and Ground Sticht Center
Panic control is vital. Prevent panic by doing what two things?
1. Providing assurance. Be positive and decisive. Reassure others by giving concise information and instructions calmly.
2. Eliminating unrest. Dispel rumors. Notify your supervisor of any person who is releasing information about the bomb threat without authorization.
What other departments besides security will be notified to assist in the search? There are 3.
Engineering, Patient Transportation, and Patron Attendants
Security Officers who are not Code 44 members may assist by doing what 4 things?
Carrying CODE 44 Bag, Scoop Stretcher, or AED.
Assisting with lifting.
Taking routine Security calls while Medical Responders complete the Code 44 call.
Crowd control.
After the "All Clear" is given, what information should you give to ECC.
Number of Personnel that responded to the scene and the number of Fire Extinguishers on scene.
When returning the defibrillator, where should it be plugged into? What should you see if done correctly?
Plugged into Red Outlet, "Emergency Power"
You should see a Green Light if plugged in correctly.
What are your search heights when looking for a suspicious package?
Floor to waist, Waist to chin, Chin to ceiling, False Ceiling if applicable.
Search by Height and assigned area, overlapping search areas. Avoid moving objects as possible.
