This founder designed the first badge. It was a larger, diamond-shaped badge with a silver fluted edge. There were only a dozen or so made from this design. When America went to war, Kappa Delta responded. During World War II Kappa Delta members sold war bonds and worked at USO facilities. They also presented the Red Cross with a car. In 1942 Kappa Delta council members decided there should be a name for all of the activities they sponsored. During the war years, chapters, alumnae associations and individuals donated thousands of articles such as pianos, sports equipment, records, puzzles, games and other items to boost troop morale. Kappa Delta later donated 500 subscriptions of Reader’s Digest magazine to USO Clubs. Shipboard libraries were donated to the American Merchant Marine Library Association.
