Laya
The regulated time spent in music is called as laya.Laya can be measured by clapping at an equal distance. The tic-toc of a clock and the heartbeat of a man are some of the best examples of laya.If this laya is disturbed even slighty , the clock gets disturbed or the man falls sick. There are 3 types of laya-vilambit laya , madhya laya and drut laya

Vibhaag
Every taali or khaali forms a new vibhaag in a taal. The total number of taalis + the total number of khaalis = the total number of vibhaags.Due to vibhaag , we can understand the internal rhythmic desgin on a taal. For example , teentaal has 16 matras and every taali or khaali arrives after every 4 matras. There are 3 taalis and 1 khaali in teentaal. Therefore, the total number of vibhaags in teentaal is 4.This can also be written as teentaal vibhaag:4-4-4-4
Madhya laya
Madhya means medium. The laya which is netiher very fast or neither very slow is known as madhya laya.We dance our tihais and todas in this laya.
Matra
