A child with documented allergies insists that they can have the snack that we are serving today. You look on the bag and it is unclear whether the snack contains an allergen or restriction that applies to the child. It seems unlikely that this would cause a reaction, but you cannot confirm with 100% certainty. Do you offer them the snack?

No. I do not care if a child cries for the rest of the day. We never serve a snack that we are not completely confident they can eat. Often, we have something else they can eat or they are eating their own snack anyway.

Are children allowed to have outside toys at our program? (Example: 3D Printed Dragons?)

No, and our repeat offenders are well-aware of this. Give them one warning and then hold onto it.

100

What do you ask at the end of every attendance?

"Did anyone not hear their name?"

200

When you store food, what do you write on the bag?

The date the food was opened and the date of expiry.

Incident Report

An alternate pick-up has arrived to dismiss a child. When asked for identification, the adult says "I left my ID in the car. We really don't have time for me to go get it." Do you dismiss the child?

Absolutely not. All pick-ups should expect to be ID'ed in this day and age. If they do not provide it, that is their error and we are legally obligated to demand to see it prior to releasing any children. This name must also be correct in the child's authorized pick-up list unless specified by the child's guardian prior.

200

How many shout-outs does a child need to accrue before they earn a prize?

5 shout outs
200

It has been 20 minutes and we have not been able to safely begin playing a game in the gym. You know that the children are going to be disappointed if you do not start something soon, but no one will settle down. Do you start the game anyway?

No, if the children cannot behave safely, they have wasted their own gym time. If there are children who are listening, you may consider allowing them to play while the rest of the group sits out.

300

How many children are allowed in the bathroom at a time?

2 children

300

What three pieces of equipment are the Kindergarteners not allowed to use on the playground?

Absolutely not.

400

A child tripped but refused an ice pack.

No report needed.

400

A child claims that a peer hit them. No staff saw it. The peer has no visible injuries and the peer denies having contact with the first child. Do you write this up?

No. You cannot write about an incident that you did not witness or verify. You are encouraged to investigate and may write it up if the peer confesses, but we are required to assume innocence if we did not witness the act and there is no evidence that this occurred.

400

What is our ratio?

1:13

400

What should you do before sending children into the bathroom?

Verbally check if anyone is already in there (for example: the janitors).
500

Do you need to use both soap & water and purell if no one will be eating at the table again?

No, you only need to use soap and water (if we will not be eating at that table again).

500

A child spontaneously got a bloody nose with no known impact (could just be dry air). The child states that this happens all the time.

Injury report.

500

A child broke a peers' laptop during Kidsborough. The parent of the child with the laptop has asked to know which child did it. Are we allowed to disclose this information?
