Based on the science of learning and behavior, this therapy focuses on applying principles like reinforcement to improve socially significant behaviors in those who have Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) Therapy
- I worked as a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) for Excel ABA.
- Home-based clientele who I visited each week, collected data each session and reported the data back to parents, supervisor, etc. This experience taught me the in's and out's of behavior and the research to support the study of behavior.
- ABA emphasizes individualized instruction tailored to the specific needs of each learner.
Earning this advanced degree allows one to assess and treat disorders related to communication and swallowing.
Speech Pathology!
- Short term goal is to obtain my Master's in Speech Pathology
- Long term goal is to open my own private practice in a clinical setting
- Seeking an advanced degree shows that I am a lifelong learner with a growth mindset and passionate about building my skill set. My experience as an educator and the skills that I possess would be easily transferable to the field of Speech Pathology.
- One significant campus challenge appears to be fostering a more widespread sense of leadership and motivation among the teaching staff. While we have a core group of dedicated leaders, there's a need to expand that and revitalize our overall staff motivation.
- I would propose hosting more professional development sessions that focus on building leadership skills, fostering teamwork, and promoting innovative teaching strategies. These sessions would be designed to be interactive and engaging, encouraging teachers to share their expertise and learn from each other.
