Literal language is used to mean exactly what is written.

Figurative language is used to give a colorful or imaginative meaning to the words an author uses. Figurative language can include simile, metaphor, imagery, personification, hyperbole, etc.

Author's style is the way an author uses words-word choice, sentence structure, figurative language- and there is a clear connection to tone based on the decisions an author makes, since the tone reflects the author's attitude.
