What is the difference in rules between dividing decimals and multiplying decimals?

1. Dividing decimals requires you bring the decimal straight up into the quotient before dividing. Whereas, multiplying decimals requires you to multiply like normal, then move your decimal a # of times depending on the decimals in your original numbers.

100

What is the main step in converting a fraction to a decimal?

Divide

100

What is a ratio?

A comparison of 2 or more quantities.

100

What is a variable?

A missing value

100

What is the median and how do we find it?

The middle number - ordering our numbers from least to greatest, marking each number off until we get to the middle. However, if there are two in the middle we must find the average of them.

200

What are the rules for adding integers?

Same sign = add the numbers together and keep the sign.

Different sign = find the difference (subtract the two numbers and keep the sign of the bigger number)

200

What is the relationship between percents and fractions?

Percents always have a denominator of 100, regardless of how large or small the percent is.

200

What are the three ways a ratio can be represented?

A to B,  A:B, and A/B (like a fraction)

200

What is the difference between an expression and an equation?

An expression does not have an equal sign, but an equation does.

200

What are some differences between a stem and leaf plot, and a dot plot?

Answers may vary

300

What is K.C.R. used for? What does the R stand for?

Dividing Fractions. Reciprocal.

300

Why does place value matter when converting a decimal to a fraction?

The place value of your decimal determines your denominator. Without knowing your place value, you will not know your denominator.

300
What is Unit Rate?

Amount Per 1

300

What is the difference between an equation and an inequality?

An equality can have less than, less than or equal to, greater than, greater than or equal to but an equation will ONLY have an equal sign.

300

What is mode? How do we find the mode for categorical data?

Most used number. For categorical data, it is the most used category.

400

How would you read this equation?

4 - -7= 11

"Four and the opposite of negative seven equals 11"

400

Ordering rational numbers means to order a set of fractions, decimals, and percents in order from either least to greatest, or greatest to least.

What should be your FIRST step BEFORE ordering these numbers on a number line?

-3.5, 7%, 1/2, 1/7, 1.33, -0.33

Convert all the numbers to the same form. It is easier to order decimals!

400

What is the difference between solving a ratio and a unit rate question?

Ratio: Plugging in our additional information from the word problem but for Unit Rate we plug in 1 for the additional information. Because unit rate is the amount per one.

400

What are some examples of an independent variable? Dependent variable? What variable represents each category?

Independent (x): Time, Number of Items, Etc

Dependent (y): Total, Final Cost

400

What are some important pieces of information we can use a box and whisker plot to find?

Range, IQR, Median, various percentages of a set of numbers.

500

What are the rules for subtracting integers?

Same Change Change

Keep the first number the same, change the operation, and change the last number to its opposite.

500

How are Fractions, Decimals, and Percents similar to Ratios and Rates?

They can all represent equivalent relationships between different sets of numbers!!!

500

Complete the steps for solving a ratio:

1. Build a ratio table
2. Plug in your information from the word problem (Labels, Original Ratio, Additional Information).

3. See if you can ____________. If you can't, cross multiply and divide.

What is scale?

500

What are the differences between additive and multiplicative relationships?

y = x + a

y = ax

Multiplicative: starts in the origin

Additive: starts on the y or x axis

On previous STAAR tests, there have been questions asked regarding percents and various data graphs. What type of Data Stimulus could ask you about percents?

All - each graph can ask you to find a percent of a specific category. For Box and Whisker plots, each section represents 25% of the data.
