List the expectations required of a technician?
1. Show up to work 10-15 minutes before your scheduled starting time, get your
Assignment before you punch in, and go right on the work order you are to start on.
That doesn't mean coming in, clocking in when you're supposed to start working, get dressed, make your coffee and come to you supervisor 15 minutes after your supposed to start.
2. Look professional wearing uniforms provided by our company, work boots and a neat appearance, no torn/ripped jeans, no tennis shoes or sneakers.
3. Work as a team with the other technicians, cooperating with supervisor and other team members, keeping a positive attitude.
4. Be professional, courteous and helpful around our fellow employees and customers at all times, treat them the way you would like to be treated when you are a customer.
5. Technicians are required to be productive, self-motivated, and thorough in your work, producing efficient quality work, productivity/billing should be no less than hours worked. Industry standards are 125-135% billing productivity, we know this isn't always achievable, however it should be your goal.
6. Technicians are required to start a work order, put the correct VMRS and action code on the work order, put they're (ETK) time on each line, put all parts used/installed on the work order fully issue, put comments on each line using/explaining "complaint, cause, and corrective action", being thorough on all work performed, when the job is complete closing the work order. If your supervisors are doing any of this for you, shame on them, this is part of Your job.
7. Technicians are required to know and perform all KNL procedures and policies when performing work, examples: Safety Procedures (example safety , PM's, Wheel torque, Tire Management, Fuel Logs, Parts Communications, etc.
8. Technicians are required to keep work area, tools, equipment clean and in good working condition, including service vehicles, restrooms, break areas and offices.
9. Technicians are required to learn and know how to perform the work required to do the job, further their education and knowledge for the job, KNL provides the information, incentivizes the tech to participate in the training and pays for ASE Certifications.
10. Technicians are required to get a CDL license, KNL pays for it and in many cases incentivizes techs to get it. It is impossible to properly diagnose a drivability problem without being able to drive and feel what the equipment is doing, if a tech can't drive a vehicle to verify the complaint and the correction, all he is doing is guessing and probably throwing parts at the problem, resulting in poor quality of repairs and results.
11 Lead Technicians are required to be 80% productive, KNL cannot afford to have lead techs not billing they're time, we realize that there will be times that a lead will not get to the 80% because of situations going on in the shop, However it should not be the norm. You are a lead, you should be leading by example.
12 Managers if you have 4 or less technicians, you are required to be productive also, we have way too many managers with one or two techs that do not bill any time at all, if you are managing your time properly this should not occur on a routine basis, you should be billing every week.
