Remind them that even a second is long enough for someone to get hurt, and ask them again to close the drawer/or POLITELY close it for them. It is not difficult to reopen the drawer in a second :)

You drop some blueberries on the floor during a cooking lab. You're busy, so you just ignore it, thinking you can clean it up later.
What mistake is made here?
You might forget to clean it up later, but more importantly, in the meantime someone might trip or slip on a squished berry (plus it is now on their shoe!)
Tom is making some soup. He pours the liquid into a glass bowl and places it in the microwave for 5 minutes (following the directions on the can). When it is done, Tom is busy watching TV, so he opens the microwave and quickly grabs the bowl without looking at it so he can go back to his show. What mistake did Tom make?
He "blindly reached" for the bowl and did not test the temp. first. This can lead to burns!

Why is it unsafe to put a knife in a sink of soapy water?
Someone else (or you) could forget it is there and reach in without being careful, cutting themselves.
Explain the correct process for washing a dish in the FCS kitchen (using the sink, not the dishwasher).
1. Scrape any food residue into the trash
2. Rinse the dish off
3. Scrub with soap
4. Rinse off soap
5. DRY COMPLETELY! with a clean towel (not hand towel!)
Why can tripping be especially unsafe in the kitchen?
There are a lot of other hazards around (sharp items, hot items) meaning a fall can lead to someone getting even more hurt.
What happens if you use wet potholders to pick up a hot dish?
The water CONDUCTS heat, meaning the heat travels through the glove and burns your hands!
Why should we NOT use extension cords in the kitchen?
They can cause the outlet to become overwhelmed due to the need for a lot of power, and cause a short circut.
