What does the preparedness plan outline?

 A preparedness plan also outlines immediate and longer-term actions to be taken if a member of the family is detained or otherwise at risk. Compiling this plan ahead of time will reduce stress and result in better outcomes for your family.

Whats SB-54 (The CA Securities Act)?

This is the one that makes California a sanctuary state. Limits collaboration between police departments and ICE.

What is Public Charge?

“Public Charge” is a term used in immigration law to refer to a person who is likely to become primarily dependent on the government for support. A public charge assessment is made when a person applies to enter the U.S. or Applies to adjust status to become a  Lawful Permanent Resident (LPR), NOT when                                              applying to become a U.S. citizen

What is DHS? 

DHS is the United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is a federal agency designed to protect the United States against threats. Its wide-ranging duties include aviation security, border control, emergency response, and cybersecurity.

When is it safe to share raids on social media?

DO NOT REPOST unless you are 100% sure that the raid is still ongoing and source is reliable. If you are not sure, contact the party sharing before reposting. Remember we want to prevent panic not spread panic.

What should you carry? 

A Know-Your-Rights card to show to ICE in any interaction. The card should at the very least, state that you will remain silent and wish to speak with an attorney.

What rights does AB60 give the immigrant community?

It allows undocumented people who qualify to drive with legal protection.

What is USCIS?

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) is an agency of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) that administers the country's naturalization and immigration system. (Handles paperwork)

What to do if ICE is at your Door/Home?

1. Do not open the Door! Ask the officers for identification to see if they are from DHS or ICE.

2. Remain calm and ask to see a warrant signed by a judge and to slip it under the door. If they don’t have one, decline to let them in. If they are looking for someone else, ask them to leave contact information. You don’t have to tell them where to find the person and you should not lie.

When preparing a Child Care Plan should you talk to your children? 




Yes without worrying them, assure your children that they will be taken care of if for some reason you are unable to care for them, even for a short period of time. Let them know who will care for them until you can.

What is DACA?

DACA is Deferred Action for Early Childhood Arrivals and is currently being renewed. No new cases are being taken.

What are the type of Public Benefits Considered for Public Charge?



  • Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, “EBT” or “Food Stamps”

  • Medicaid (Except for emergency services, children under 21 years, pregnant women, and new mothers)

  • Cash assistance programs (like SSI, TANF, General Assistance)

What is CBP?

CBP stands for U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and is one of the world's largest law enforcement organizations and is charged with keeping terrorists and their weapons out of the U.S. while facilitating lawful international travel and trade.

Give an example of a warrant type and what it allows ICE to do. 

1. Warrant of Removal/ Deportation: This order DOES NOT allow ICE to enter your home without permission.

2. Search Warrant: A search warrant allows law enforcement officers to enter the address LISTED ON THE DOCUMENT

What is the Long Beach Sanctuary Policy?

It's a local effort that makes the city of Long Beach a sanctuary city. It offers more protections than the state SB-54 policy. It currently has the same state policy restrictions but there are efforts to improve.

When will the changes take effect?

The new changes will not be used by immigration officials until October 15, and will apply only to applications that are postmarked or submitted electronically on or after October 15.

What is ICE?

ICE stands for Immigration and Customs Enforcement, an agency within the Department of Homeland Security. ICE was created in 2003, as a part of the government's reorganization after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.

What should you do if you are detained?

1. Ask to speak to your attorney. DO NOT ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS OR SIGN ANYTHING YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND WITHOUT YOUR ATTORNEY! 

2. DO NOT LIE. It can only hurt you in the future. 

3. Ask for bond and a hearing before a judge even if ICE says you are not eligible. 

4. Ask for copies of all your immigration documents.

Birth certificates, Marriage certificates, Passports, Caregiver's Authorization, Affidavit, Social Security or ITIN number G-28 (FormAttorney can speak on your behalf), and A-Number.

What is the Long Beach Justice Fund?

It helps low-income residents who live or work in the city of Long Beach receive legal representation in deportation cases.
