How many hours can you work from Sunday-Friday?

14-15 year olds: 3 hours

16-17+ year olds: 6 hours

If an immigration officer comes to your work place and you are scared and feel the need to leave, how should you leave?

Do not panic and do not run away. If you are frightened and feel like you need to leave, you can calmly walk toward the exit.

What 3 documents do you need completed before you are approved to work?

Work Permit, EDD, W4. 

EDD & W4 are both tax withholding documents, EDD is for the California state tax and w4 is for the federal tax

How many sick hours do I have with? 

Employees will earn 1 hour of Paid Sick Leave for every 21 hours worked. Accrued hours will be listed on each paycheck stub.To receive Paid Sick Leave, employees must request Paid Sick Leave on ADP. Your coordinator needs to be notified so they can confirm you are eligible.

If you are stopped by an immigration officer, what is something you can do?

If you are questioned, you may tell them you want to remain silent, and say so outloud!

You may refuse to show identity documents that say what country you are from.

If you are asked where you were born, or how you entered the United States, you may refuse to answer or remain silent BUT do not show any false documents and do not lie.

If you realize you cant make it to workshop what should you do?

You must call your Coordinator or Worksite Supervisor to inform him/her of your absence as soon as you know. If you fail to call, it will be considered an unexcused absence and will jeopardize your position in the program. More than three unexcused absences may result in termination.

I worked 2 hours, when do I get my paid break?

if you work a 4 hour shift, you will receive a 15 minute paid break (not recorded on timesheet)

if you work more than 5 hours during a shift, you will receive a 30 minute unpaid break. Sign out when you start your 30 minute unpaid break and sign back in when you start working after the break.

If you are detained or taken into custody, you have the right to immediately contact a what?

LAWYER!

Even if you do not have a lawyer, you may tell the immigration officers that you want to speak to one.

If you do not have a lawyer, ask an immigration officer for a list of pro bono lawyers.

You also have the right to contact your consulate. The consulate may be able to assist you in locating a lawyer

You can refuse to sign any/all paperwork until you have had the opportunity to speak to a lawyer.

I'm at my worksite and I need to restock items on the top shelf but I can't reach the top of the shelf. What should I do?

Ask your supervisor for help! 

You cannot engage in any job activities that are deemed hazardous (no matter how fun or safe they may

seem). Job duties that are deemed hazardous include, but are not limited to:

● Operating machines that can cut or burn you

● Driving anything

● Climbing a ladder, scaffold or fence

● Handling dangerous chemicals

● Explosives

● Using power driven machines: drill, saw, router, etc.

● Demolition

Do you have to be a US citizen to have access to constitutional rights?

NO! All people living in the United States, including undocumented immigrants, have certain U.S. Constitutional rights. If immigration officers (ICE) come to your work place, they must have a valid search warrant or the consent of your employer to enter non-public areas.
