  1. It was developed because during the hot, dry summers, the wheat can not survive the heat and insects, so it is better to be planted in the fall/winter instead.

  1. The cow ticks were traveling with the cow and the cowboys. And when they crossed the border, it spread to the other cows. To protect KS cattle.

The Morrill Act of 1862 and 1890 gave land grants to states to sell land to individuals to make more profit and create colleges for agriculture.

  1. They brought in settlers and businesses, and farmers needed towns where they could do business, and stores and banks needed people to buy their goods and services, bringing in profit and making traveling much more reliable and cheaper.

  1. It helped the farmers come together and associate with other farmers with similar concerns. Also helped educate farmers on new methods of farming.

  1. KS was an abolitionist state with religious freedom. There were many farming opportunities, land (diverse crops), and good crops, and the geography was similar, so they knew how to farm KS land. Kansas also had railroads, was a free state, and was safe from pacifists.

- The Sand Creek Massacre led to tension because chief black kettle and white antelope had made peace with John Chivington, then Chivington betrayed the peace by slaughtering 150 men, women, and children.

  1. Describe the outcomes of the Medicine Lodge Peace Treaty. (5.1) -  

The Medicine Lodge Peace Treaty: The Government promised the Native Americans necessities, reservations, and peace in exchange for their original land and right to hunt for food. The Native Americans did not like this, and some ended up living on the reservations, while others started a fight that would last for the next three years.

  1. He burned a Cheyenne village after the Indians fled, and he assumed that the Indians were not willing to negotiate peace settlements.

 Santana was a Kiowa chief, and Chief Ten Bears was another powerful speaker who gave the speech at the Medicine Lodge Peace Treaty. Medicine Lodge River was believed to have healing qualities and healed the tensions between groups
