Arrive to class on time and with all the needed materials (notebook, pencil, iPad, charger, etc.).

Be prepared to start practicing/speaking right way.

Most days I will have a bell ringer activity on the board for you to work on while I take attendance.

100

Cell phones and iPads are to be put away unless it is being used as part of the assignment.

Don't be disrespectful or distracted by your phone/iPad.  I will collect it if it becomes a problem.

100

Complete all assignments/activities to the best of your ability.  You don’t have to be perfect, but you do have to try!

Instead of saying, “I don’t know,” say:

-Can you repeat the question?

-Could you speak slower, please?

-Could you explain it in a different way?

-What does ___________ mean?

If you are confused, raise your hand!

If you have a question, raise your hand!

If you need help, raise your hand!

I will periodically check for understanding, but if you don’t speak up, then I won’t know you need help!

100

Since this is Spanish class, I will be asking you to speak as much Spanish as possible.

All assignments will be completed in Spanish unless otherwise noted.  Use the posters above the SmartBoard for help.

200

Don't close your materials, pack up early, or line up at the door.

We often use the time right up until the end of class, so don't pack up or get up before I release you to do so.

200

Do not talk while others are talking.

Do not disrupt learning by talking over others, including myself.

200

Treat everyone with respect.  You must never make fun of, laugh, or put down any student for answering a question incorrectly or mispronouncing something.

We all make mistakes.  This classroom is a safe environment for students.

200

Be sure to read all instructions and listen to verbal instructions to best complete a task.

Use the posters above the SmartBoard for help.

You will be made aware of due dates and deadlines in several ways.  I announce due dates in class.  I put homework on the homework board, and sometimes I send Canvas messages with assignment information.

300

Come to class prepared to take notes...

You will be required to take notes and participate in activities.  You submit your notes and activities at the end of each section as this will be a portion of your quiz grade.

300

Stay on task.

Learning a new language will require lots of practice, focus, input, and repetition.  You are not to work on homework for other classes, read a book, or play games unless I give you free time.

300

I can easily be reached via email or Canvas messages.  Please write a properly formatted email.  Don’t treat it like a text message.

I check my email frequently and usually get back with you same day.  Although, it may be up to 48 hours.

300

If you are unhappy about your grade, don’t wait until the last minute to try to improve it.  See me with questions or for extra help.

I always provide extra resources for students to practice Spanish outside of class.  There is also tutoring available for Spanish.

400

If you are absent, you are responsible for making up work.

Email me as soon as you know you will be gone, so you can be prepared for class when you return.

It is YOUR responsibility to get the info about what you missed and to do the work BEFORE you return to class.

400

Be courteous to other students, my classroom, and the custodial staff.  Pick up after yourself.

There are trash cans and a paper recycle bin in the room, so be sure to utilize those.

400

Cheating will not be tolerated.  It will result in an automatic failure of the assignment/test and possibly the course.  Forms of cheating include, but are not limited to, using a translator (online or native speakers) and copying someone else's work.

Take risks!  Do not be afraid to speak or make mistakes—that is one of the best ways to improve your Spanish.  You can learn from your mistakes!

400

A language class often times requires more out of you outside of class, especially since I don't see you every day.  Learning Spanish will require consistent practice.  Take time to study every night.

Make flashcards to help study your vocabulary words.  Spending 10-15 minutes per night will help you memorize vocab words and be successful in class.
