Discuss the orientation processes and the nurse residency program.
The NRP is a 16-week training program for new hires. During this time period nurses are assigned a preceptor to guide and support their clinical skills and role development. Succession of the NRP is followed by a mentorship program where new hires are challenged to take on a QI project whilst continuing to receive ongoing support for new hires during their transition to independence.

What is the "Lean" project?
Lean: A system developed to enhance organization in our supply closets. By doing so, we reduce waste and time spent looking for supplies. This helps our organization save money and allows nursing to become more efficient.

What EBP project was developed on 7C?
John Hopkins: This project was created to enhance communication between multidisciplinary teams on a patient's mobility. Their mobilities are scored by number and demonstrated outside their rooms and provided during handoff report. By doing so we decrease the risk of falls and HAPI's.

We utilize translation services (in person and tele network), spiritual services such as chaplain, and social work services to aid our homeless population.

How does your unit address staff educational needs?
We perform monthly staff meetings in which we review hospital/unit deficiencies and audit scores. As a unit we review policies, hold discussions during huddle, and perform in-services to staff members.
