No, her method of teaching the parrot to talk was not correct. The relationship between Aunt Ruby and the parrot was hostile. If I was Aunt Rudy I would have developed a positive relationship with the parrot.
I would talk to the parrot gently and make sure it was comfortable in its surroundings. I would be patient and not scold it. I would praise it and maybe give it treats every time it talked.
