There are some different methods that we can use to Encourage the Heart, this one could be demonstrated with a high five, handshake, fist bump or a hug.
What is Physical Touch?
This stage of group development has to do with how a group comes together, for whatever reason or purpose they all may have.
Means being constantly aware and observing your surroundings. Staying open minded, eager to learn and improve.
What is Alertness?
Means doing both what is best for yourself, and also the best thing for those that trust in you.
What is Loyalty?
If you demonstrate this, you can set a realistic goal, then concentrate on its achievement by resisting temptations. Being determined and persistent on reaching your goal.
What is Intentness?
This is the Leadership principle that has to do with helping others to see the possibilities of what they can accomplish as a team or group and how this plan will benefit themselves and others.
What is Inspire a Shared Vision?
There are some different methods that we can use to Encourage the Heart, this one could be demonstrated with letters, texts, or verbal acknowledgement to show appreciation for a team member.
What is Words of Affirmation?
This stage of group development has to do with how a group might struggle with others in the group, group members might not understand their roles yet in the group or disagree about how they can be most successful and this gets in the way of their success.
What is Storming?
Means working hard and being willing to create and follow a plan.
What is Industriousness?
Means having the ability to make decisions and think alone. Not being afraid of failure, being willing to learn from it. Being willing to be the first person to try an attempt.
What is Initiative?
Being willing to sacrifice personal glory for the good of the team. The teams success is what matters.
What is Team Spirit?
This Leadership principle has to do with making a change if something is no longer working or serving the purpose of the people in your group.
What is Challenge the Process?
There are some different methods that we can use to Encourage the Heart, this one could be demonstrated with being present and sharing space and activities with the person they appreciate.
What is Quality Time?
This stage of group development has to do with how a group is capable of working together at their optimal ability to be as successful as they can in reaching their goals.
What is Performing?
Means listening if you want to be heard. Be interested in finding the best way, not in having your own way. Being a good teammate, supporting the team.
What is Cooperation?
Means really giving your all and enjoying what you are doing. If you are going to be doing it, try to make it fun!
What is Enthusiasm?
Training yourself and those around you to be in the best Mental/Moral/Physical state you can be in.
What is Condition?
This Leadership principle has to do with giving other people the ability to develop skills or accomplish their goals by providing them the ability to step up and be successful. You might also delegate a task to someone so they feel empowered to take on role or job in the team.

This stage of group development has to do with how a group starts to understand their roles in a group and how they can begin setting ground rules and establishing how they should start working toward success.
What is Norming?
Means being able to adjust to any situation at any given time. Knowing change will happen and being able to handle change when it comes.
What is Adaptability?
Means others know they can depend on us. They know we will make the effort to do our best, whatever the situation might be.
What is Reliability?
Belief in the people that you are working with, belief in yourself and the work that you are doing.
What is Faith?
This Leadership principle has to do with making sure that those that you are around and work with know how much they are appreciated and respected for what they bring to the group and what they can do.
What is Encourage the Heart?
There are some different methods that we can use to Encourage the Heart, this one could be demonstrated with giving the person that we appreciate an object, that we made or purchased, to show them how much you know about and appreciate them.
What are Gifts?
This stage of group development has to do with how a group or people in the group are able to reflect on the good work that they were able to accomplish.
What is Adjourning?
Means being able to keep emotions under control, applying good judgement and common sense. Having self-discipline.
What is Self-Control?
Means having mutual respect, confidence and devotion for each other. It should not be taken for granted and needs both sides to put in effort.
What is Friendship?
Comes from knowing you have done all you can to prepare, yourself and your team. It must be monitored so that it does not become arrogance.
What is Confidence?
Means being at your best when your best is needed, enjoying a difficult challenge with your team.

When the McFarland team ran as best they could at their first State Cross Country Championship. They demonstrated this stage of group development.
