When it's hot and sunny at the campsite, you'll need to put this on to protect your skin from the sun!

Sunscreen!

Sunscreen protects your skin from the sun's harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays in two primary ways: by reflecting or scattering UV rays, or by absorbing them. Physical sunscreens, also known as mineral sunscreens, use minerals like zinc oxide and titanium dioxide to create a barrier that reflects and scatters UV rays. Chemical sunscreens, on the other hand, contain chemicals that absorb UV rays and convert them into heat, which is then released from the skin.

A Ghost Story!

Ghost stories are fun around a campfire because the setting itself enhances the spooky atmosphere. The crackling fire, dancing shadows, and the sounds of the night create a sense of anticipation and heighten the listener's imagination. The shared experience of storytelling, especially scary stories, brings people together and allows them to explore themes of fear and the unknown in a safe, controlled environment.

A Racoon!

To avoid having racoons rumaging through your trash at your campsite, you should secure food and trash in hard-sided containers or hang them high in a tree. You  should also clean up spills and food scraps immediately and avoid leaving pet food outside. Raccoons are also deterred by bright lights and loud noises, so consider using a flashlight or making noise if they approach your food at your campsite.

To prevent dehydration and heat exhaustion, you should drink _____ regularly while camping.

Water!

Water hydrates your body by replenishing fluids and electrolytes lost through daily activities. When you drink water, it's absorbed into your bloodstream and distributed throughout your body, including to your cells. This process is governed by osmosis, where water moves from areas of high to low concentration to balance fluid levels, ensuring cells maintain their proper shape and function.

Water is a transparent, tasteless, and odorless liquid composed of hydrogen and oxygen (H₂O). It is essential for life on Earth and is found in various forms, including liquid, solid (ice), and gas (water vapor). Water is often referred to as the "universal solvent" due to its ability to dissolve many substances.

A Lighter And Matches!

Lighters, surprisingly, were invented before matches. The first lighter, called Döbereiner's lamp, was created in 1823 by German chemist Johann Wolfgang Döbereiner. It used hydrogen gas and a platinum catalyst to create a flame. Modern lighters, with ferrocerium "flints", came about with Carl Auer von Welsbach's invention in 1903, making portable lighters practical.
