PREP AND WASH: Gather all supplies and wash 

your hands thoroughly with soap and water. Use 

this moment for sweet talking, singing, or giggles!

GLOVES: Put on a pair of nitrile or vinyl gloves 

and gently place the child on the changing table, 

always keeping a hand on them for safety. 

REMOVE: Carefully remove the soiled diaper, 

placing it out of the child’s reach.

CLEANSE: Use disposable baby wipes to gently 

cleanse the genital area from front to back. 

Wrap up the used wipes with the soiled diaper.

CREAM: If the parent has provided diaper 

cream/ointment and requested its use, put on 

a clean pair of gloves and apply. Then, remove 

and safely dispose of your gloves.

DIAPER: Place a fresh, clean diaper on the child.

WASH: Wash the child’s hands, then safely remove 

them from the changing table.

DISPOSE: Put supplies away. Package the soiled 

diaper, wipes, and gloves and dispose of them, 

according to state requirements.
