Convex lenses can only be made up to a certain size because they will warp and bend under the weight and shape. Mirrors can be made larger without warping or changing shape.

It helps to explain how shadows occur by showing them being blocked by an object. Ray diagrams also help to explain intensity, how when you are closer to a light source, it is more intense as more light rays are hitting your eye. As you move further away, less light beams hit your eye as the rays spread out.

A convex lens collects light as it converges rays from a larger area to a small area. It creates a real image as it focuses the light to a focal point and creates an upside down image which can be used on a projector screen, in cameras, our eyes etc.
