Properties of Light I
When light hits the first surface it looks just as bright. When it hits a second surface, it looks dimmer. What properties of light are we seeing with each surface?
First = just as bright =reflect
Second = dimmer = absorb
What are the colors of the rainbow?
Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, Violet
Which way should a car shade with a black side and a shiny side be placed in a car and why?
Shiny side facing out so that it reflects the sunlight off the car and keeps it from heating up.
Will a red light shining on a red cup heat it up? Why or why not?
Probably not because the red cup will reflect the red light back which prevents it from heating.
What happens when light is transmitted?
It is passing through something like a window.
When setting up an experiment, how many variables can you test at a time?
ONE variable at a time. All other variables remain the same.
What tool do we use to separate white light into seven colors?
A prism
How could you change a dog house design that has a clear plastic roof to make the doghouse cooler?
You need to replace it with something white or reflective that will keep the heat out of the doghouse. Aluminum metal would be a good choice.

It will not heat up because the red from the white light will simply reflect back.

It "captures" the light and causes things to heat up.

Material that will reflect or bounce back the light so that it does not enter the classroom.

Yes, because black absorbs all colors including red. The energy from the red light will heat the water.
