This modifier is cheap and works with almost any brand light.
What is an umbrella?

This modifier fits in an open reflector and creates a more direct beam of light.
What is a grid?
This is the fastest shutter your camera can have that allows a flash to illuminated the entire scene.
What is sync speed?
This lighting set up is a good pattern to start with for food photography.
What is rim or backlight?
This effect is created by placing the light extremely close to the subject so that the light changes from bright to dark rapidly.
What is light fall off?
These can be placed over a light to create color effects in your images.
What are gels?
This modifier gives you a narrow but soft beam of light that is ideal for photographing bottles or using as a rim light.
What is a strip light?
You must do this after dropping power on your studio strobe before taking your next shot.
What is dump?
This pattern places the shadow side of the face toward the camera for a slimming effect.

Doing this can add an extra layer of dimension to your image and help draw attention to your subject.
