Mention the mole ratio of H2 : Cl2 : HCl in the reaction

H2 (g)  + Cl2 (g) -> 2 HCl (l)

the mole ratio of H2 : Cl2 : HCl = 1 : 1 : 2

What is a limiting reactant?

reactant that limits the amount of products.

1

Mention one use of a limiting reactant in daily life!

PREDICTING PRODUCT AMOUNT

2

Given the following reaction

C3H8 (g)  + 5 O2 -> 3 CO2 + 4 H2O

Find the mole of O2 needed to react with 0.2 moles of propane,C3H8

The mole ratio of C3H8 : O2 = 1 : 5

Mole of O2 is = 5 x 0.2 = 1 mole.

2

Given that 5 moles of C2Hreacted with 18 moles of O2 via the following reaction:

C2H(g)  + 3 O2 (g) -> 2 CO2 (g) + 2 H2O (g)

Find the limiting reactant!

Use the formula = moles : stoichiometric coeffient

C2H4 = 5:1 = 5

O2 = 19 : 3 = 6

5< 6

C2H4 is the limiting reactant.

2

Given the reaction :

SO2 (g) + O2 (g) -> SO3 (g)  (unbalanced)

If 3 moles of SO2 reacted with 1 mole of O2, find the limiting reactant!

2 SO2 (g) + O2 (g) -> 2 SO3 (g)

SO2 = 3:2 = 1.5

O2 = 1: 1 = 1

LR = O2

3

Given the reaction:

N2 (g)  + 3 H2 (g) -> 2 NH3 (g)

2 moles of Nreacted with 4 moles of H2 , find the moles of NH3 formed!

N2 = 2:1 =2

H2 = 4:3 = 1.3

Limiting reactant: N2

Moles of NH3 formed: 2  x 1.3 = 2.6 mol
