Define idiom
An idiom is a sentence or phrase that has both a literal and figurative meaning. The literal and figurative meaning will be VERY different from each other.
In art class, my hoodie got as messed up as my painting.
Colloquialism = hoodie & messed up
Simile = comparing the hoodie and the painting
In "Charge of the Light Brigade" the poet says "it's not to reason why, there's not to make reply, there's but to do and die." What does that mean?
The soldiers' responsibility was to obey orders without question and die with honour.
