Giving human qualities to objects or nonliving things.
Personification
Tension from the conflict decreases as the story moves toward conclusion.
Falling Action
Person or force against the main character in the story.
Antagonist
Story told by a narrator talking to the reader. It can give you instructions.
2nd Person
A character struggles to make a major decision.
Man vs. Self
Comparing two unrelated things using "like" or "as".
Simile
A conflict is introduced to "kick off" the story.
Inciting Incident
The sequence of events in the story.

3rd Person Omniscient
A character wants to cut down trees in their yard but the neighborhood HOA doesn't approve the request.
Man vs. Society
Comparing two unrelated things by saying one thing is the other.
Metaphor
Events that develop the story's conflict, building suspense.
Rising Action
Underlying meaning of the story; universal idea or message.
Theme
Outside narrator focuses on telling the actions/events, not thoughts and feelings of characters.
