What is the difference between restitution and an alternative sentence?
Restitution means to make amends or set things right. Brent attends a restitution meeting with Ms. Gill (the mediator) and Mrs. Zamora to try to make things right with Lea's family. Going on the whirligig-making journey is Brent's act of restitution (and is done by choice). Alternative Sentencing is the act of creating appropriate punishments for crimes other than traditional prison terms, probation, and parole. It is given by the judge, is not optional, and sometimes includes a public humiliation component.

The Hero's Journey/Heroic Cycle is a pattern that traces the adventures of a hero. It is not the same as a hero myth because the story of a hero's journey does not have to be from a story that has been in existence for thousands of years. The Heroic Cycle can be applied to many different novels and films today.
