He goes out of his way to intimidate Piggy, continually interrupts him when he addresses the group, and physically assaults Piggy. Piggy represents and supports everything Jack hates. He recognizes that Jack is evil and often speaks out against him and criticizes him for his savage behavior.

Ralph and Jack at first start as friends, bonding over their time exploring the island. However, as time went on, they began to despise one another because they had different goals (Building shelter vs. Hunting the pig). This causes the boys to argue with one another over what has more priority. By the end of chapter 4, Ralph despises Jack for being obsessed with killing the pig causing them to lose their chances of being rescued.
