What is this?

A species who eats plants and animals.

Omnivore

What is this?

An organism that uses energy from the Sun to make it's own food.

Producer

What is this?

An individual living thing, which includes all plants and animals.

Organism

What is this?

A species that has died out completely.

Extinct Species
200

What is this?

A species who eats plants only.

Herbivore

What is this?

An organism that cannot make it's own food.

Consumer

What is this?

A living thing in an ecosystem, such as a plant, animal, or a bacteria.

Biotic Factor

300

Who is this?

A species who only eats meat.

Carnivore

300

What is this?

Is an organism that breaks down dead plant and animal material to feed back to the soil. They are called Nature's Recyclers!

A Decomposer

What is this?

The living and nonliving things that interact in an environment. The pond and it's organisms from this.

An Ecosystem

300

We have a pond with a thriving ecosystem including grasses, pond lilies, ducks, fish, beavers, and turtles. There is an oil spill in this small Bastrop pond. How can this affect the organisms in the ecosystem?

The animals living in the pond are sick because they consumed some oil and there is oil stuck on their skin/feathers/fur.

The grass is dying and no longer a good food source. The beavers, ducks, and turtles travel to a new pond to try to survive.
The fish die. The pond lilies die.

Describe what happened to Bison in North America in the 1800s- 1900s.

In the 1800s, millions of bison roamed the plains. Them bison were hunted for sport and for their hides. By the 1900s only 200 bison lived, they were endangered species.

What would happen to other organisms if the frogs left the ecosystem?

The owl and the snake will be hungry because they have less prey (food)

The grasshopper population will decrease because they will have 1 less predator

400

What would happen to organisms in our ecosystem if the rabbit left the ecosystem?

There would be more grasses.

The fox would be hungry because they would have lost 1 of their 2 prey.

400

What is this?

A Nonliving part of an ecosystem

Abiotic Factor

400

How does humans mining for oil affect organisms in an ecosystem?

Mining eliminates healthy ecosystems of forests. This causes animals to lose their homes and be displaces. Animals must find new homes and sources of food and water.

If I introduced an invasive species plant: the purple pond lily to my pond, how would it affect the ecosystem?

The pond lily can crowd other plants

It can also take too many resources so that other plants and animals die out

Give 3 examples of abiotic factors in a pond ecosystem.

water, rocks, air
