BTAC consists of a national advocacy center and affiliate state chapters. They work daily to end poverty, health inequity, and racist housing and employment systems to improve the lived experience of transgender people. During a time when Black ballet dancers were not allowed to grace the stage, this gay man performed with the Arthur Mitchell’s Dance Theatre of Harlem, one of the first premiere classical ballet companies for Black dancers. He later relocated to WA state where he would teach at Evergreen College and created the Tacoma Urban Performing Arts Center (TUPAC). He unfortunately did not get to see the grand opening before his untimely death.
